Friday 17th Oct 2008

Friday 19th December 2008

27/05/2008: WAX ON : WAX OFF @ WAREHOUSE pwded it!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, big thanks to everyone who made it down, Robosapiens and all the other djs who rocked it, WeAreGod.co.uk who made Warehouse look so damn good, and the extended WO:WO team for flyering, photographing (Ginny you star!) and making the whole thing work :D

We had a really successful night and we're pretty proud of getting 200 people through the doors on a night that also saw Blowpop, Byte, Empathy, and Dead Edit putting on breaks in Bristol. More from us at Warehouse in July we hope, join the mailing list at www.waxonwaxoff.org to find out more!

01/03/2008: Fuck Meditation - WAX ON : WAX OFF @ WAREHOUSE – Friday 23 May 2008

-------------------------------------------------------------------

WAX ON : WAX OFF

@ Warehouse (Prince Street, Bristol)

Friday 23rd May 2008

£2 b4 11, £4 after

Well, we're back. After repeatedly filling the Cavern Club to capacity last year, we decided we needed a bigger venue and Warehouse seems like just the place for the return of WAX ON : WAX OFF.

This time we'll be bringing you fat dirty breakbeats downstairs and jaw-dropping psy-trance soundscapes upstairs as we stretch our legs to fill two rooms with the breaks, beats and big bad bass that you know and love. We’ll have free cds and random stuff to give away, and we’re running at minimal cost to the clubber - just £2 b4 11, £4 after for an immersive, involving night of clubbing that you won’t forget in a hurry.

ROBOSAPIENS

After a successful tour with Phil Collins, being cleared of all charges and a stint in rehab, Dead Famous label bosses the Robosapiens are back!

These guys have got a well deserved reputation for tearin' it up where ever they go - recent release INFECTED, with its tale of backstage excess (thank you Collins) and insistent fans, wears its twisted tech funk sensibilities bold and brash. Add the boys’ love of all things acid, phat synths, a punk vocal hook and you’re left with a dance floor bomb that’s just a taste of the new material you’ll hear in their massive hour and a half set at WAX ON : WAX OFF.

With their album dropping later in the year, an Annie Nightingale Radio 1 session and a hectic gigging schedule, 2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Robosapiens.

www.deadfamous.org

We'll also have visuals from WeAreGod.co.uk, bringing you old school hardware design combined with state-of-the-art computer systems, multiple projectors onto multiple multi-layer screens with midi controlled sources outputted through feedback and interference, of all aspects of video, across dimensions.

Plus roaming surrealism from Are You The Farmer’s Psy-Kiedo SideShow – even we’re not really sure what this is going to entail, but we’re sure you’re gonna enjoy finding out. More (sort of) at www.areyouthefarmer.com.

01/03/2008: We’re back, and we’ve got a new venue

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so sorry for the lack of updates since December, but the WO:WO team has been scouring Bristol for a new bigger venue hold our breakbeats this year. And after much searching, we think you’ll be happy to hear that Warehouse will be hosting the next WO:WO on Friday 23rd May 2008. It’s further away than we’d like, but we think it’ll be worth the wait for 2 floors of breaky-beaty goodness, with a bigger-than-usual slice of psy-trance thrown in for good measure. All the details, flyer and line-up coming soon(ish), stay in touch and make sure you’re on the mailing list!

Word,

Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------

03/12/2007: WO:WO thanks you!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, what can we say? It went off like always, we packed the cavern out and ran the bar staff off their feet, music was bangin’ like always so big shouts to the djs who made it happen. Thanks, and we’ll be back next year – in a bigger venue so we can fit in even more breaks, beats, and big bad bass.

Boomshanka!

Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------

15/11/2007: WO:WO XMAS SPECIAL!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Phew, so long since the last update. Well, this is only a quicky, to say that the new flyers are off to the printers (and hopefully shown above) and that the next night is gonna be here in just a couple of weeks! Saturday 1st December is the WO:WO Xmas Special, and we’ve got Sneaky Kreeps bringing some dirty funky breakbeat, and the rest of the WO:WO crew just itching to give you your xmas present – a sack fulla big bad bass! Full lineup and set times will be up here before the 1st, so stay tuned.

Cheers,

Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------

08/10/2007: Thank You!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Woah, where to start for this one?

Firstly, a big thank you to every single raver who came down and had a dance - without you guys the whole thing wouldn't work. We filled the cavern club to capacity on friday night so there must have been a few of you out : )

Special words of praise and gratitude go to WeAreGod.co.uk for all the hard work getting the visuals up (just in time : ) and making the whole club look so goddamn nice - we really think it makes a huge difference that the venue looks proper and that's all down to the WeAreGod fellas.

DJs Dying Giraffe and Vicarious for building up a funky start and not going balls-out tear-out too early in the night. A proper decent set guys, and a great beginning to a great party.

Dexter Styles doubtless brought it up a notch (I was working the door during his set so I can't really say what he was like, but I heard good things and the set he laid down for the free cd was top stuff - consider yourself lucky if you got one). Thanks also go to Mr Styles for running this night with me and for getting us some monitors at the last second too, it's all a team effort y'know.

Robosapiens were immense and really enjoyed themselves too - huge thanks to them for a flawless hour and a half of dirty techy breaks, and to the crowd again for giving them such a good reception. Make sure you check out Robosapiens at the Y4K album launch (Fri 16th Nov @ Warehouse), I know I will be.

Tethis and Dogmas deserve props too for finishing it off in style, keeping the crowd moving and the dancefloor busy till 3am. Thanks to Tethis for the help setting up and to Dogmas for getting the visual gear out while everyone else was still asleep on Sat, much respect.

Middle-G put a lot of time and effort into setting up our sock puppet workshop so thanks and hugs for that and all the photos taken too - we'll have a special gallery of all your puppets up on the website soon too.

As always, love and thanks to Clever Sheep for the support and help. Also shout outs and big ups WO:WO stylee to: the DJ WAGs (Jane / Jess / Joo / Nadine / Nic  - you all looked great, and thanks for the afterparty pressies Joo), Big-G, Pak-Pak, Atom Bob, Mr Evans (whose art is on display at the Cube - get down there or check www.mydeaddog.co.uk), King'o'Hanham (who would do well to keep count), Pye and Mike, Muz - hope you made it home ok, Sarah for making it out after Tribe disappointment last week, Mr Adam (sorry for short-changing you), Rachael for liking Parappa a bit too much, and everyone else who came along for the best birthday party ever. We had a brilliant one, and here's to another year of WO:WO.

Next event: Saturday 1st December 2007 (feat. Sneaky Kreeps). Word.

17/09/2007: WO:WO Flyer!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Breakbeat, Bristol, Beats and Bass - we're it baby!

Coming 'atcha like a shark with knees, every other month throughout 2007 - and this one's our 1st Birthday Party!

Wax On : Wax Off @ The Cavern Club, Bristol

9pm till 3am. £free b4 11, £2 after. Pub-priced drinks all night.

Great music and cheap drinks make each and every Wax On : Wax Off a very special night. The Cavern Club (downstairs at The Crown - back of St. Nick's market) is the perfect intimate venue for our own brand of dancefloor mayhem; at a typical night you can expect to hear dirty dark funky breakbeat and a bit of psytrance from our residents and special guests.

This time it's our FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY! And boy, have we got a treat for you. All the way from Dead Famous Records - the mighty ROBOSAPIENS are coming for you!

The combination of a drum 'n' bass graduate and a techno survivor, Robosapiens uncovered a mutual interest in breaks that has lead to some memorable gigs and studio successes.

The Robo/Sapiens Jamie Flukes and Steve Kyte - met while DJing breaks at parties around Bristol, a club scene both knew well from years of service in the city.

Jamie had previously earned his stripes as a resident for Drive By, Bristol's leading drum 'n' bass night, as well as gigs for other promoters including Bulletproof in Cardiff and Pink Lime in Bristol. His early support for the nuskool breaks sound earned further DJing spots around the country, notably with the Y3K Tour and on the road for IDJ Magazine. He was also allegedly responsible for the GM Dollar bootleg that sold over 3000 units and won the Red Nose Day DJ battle for Pete Tong that year.

Jamie has pushed the Robosapiens sound abroad with regular visits to Japan playing Tokyo's prestigous WOMB.

Formerly one half of techno outfit The Pranksters, Steve is no stranger to the studio or club environment and has DJ'd throughout the UK and Europe.

After developing a taste for breaks he started adding his own twist to the sound, and has put his love of the 303 to good use in the Robosapiens.

Their music draws on their former styles, adding a tech edge to rolling breaks with some deep tracks and some upbeat ones - all capable of igniting dancefloors.

You can also expect some quality breaks from WO:WO promoters and residents Mishima and Dexter Styles, plus ripping b2b sets from Dying Giraffe vs. Vicarious and Tethis vs. Dogmas.

Come, join us - or we'll come find you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

14/09/2007: Photos!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, they’re very late, but they’re finally here, photos from the last WO:WO! Check them out here. We’ve been working hard to get ready for the next WO:WO, which is our first birthday party! The usual WO:WO fun guaranteed, plus very special secret guest headliners! Watch this space…

Mishima

See the back of the flyer (below) for all the performers at our next event:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

23/07/2007: Next Event!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, here it comes – it’s been a month and a half since the last one and the next Wax On : Wax Off is right around the corner. We’ve been working extra hard to get the usual WO:WO madness up to speed and we’ll have a few special surprises in store as always. If you’re coming along, then register on DSI and join our group – we need you!

In a change to the published (and printed) flyer details; ATOM BOB MAY NOT BE PERFORMING! We repeat: ATOM BOB MAY NOT BE PERFORMING! We’re really sorry if this turns out to be the case as we don’t like to advertise something that’s not going to happen (despite knowing that the words ATOM BOB on the flyer will doubtless draw a huge crowd). So he may play, he may not – we’ll let you know as soon as we know.

To make up for this oversight, we’ve arranged for a very special start to the night. Are You The Farmer? presents Not Many (Dis)DJs, featuring DJ Mothman & MC McSock. You’ll want to get downstairs at 9pm not to miss this – and I don’t think I can describe what you’re in for. We promise you’ve never seen anything like it.

Other audio treats for the night include some cracking nu-skool breaks from DJs Dying Giraffe and Dexter Styles, an hour of psytrance from WO:WO regular Tethis, and a drum’n’bass rinse-out (from back when it was good) by Mishima. Something for everyone, and all for only £2 (after 11 – it’s FREE before). Full line up and set times will be put up here a few days before the event.

See you soon! Mishima

12/06/2007: Website Update

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Website updated with photos and music from the Saturday 2nd June WO:WO - enjoy. Thanks to Nadine for sending in her photos, bonus pictures from Middle-G are also available on DSI. Apologies to anyone who listens to it for the messiness of my set - but it was my birthday (and I was a little trashed : )

Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------

11/06/2007: WOWO Aftermath

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to all who came along for our night on Saturday 2nd June. I had a great birthday (from what I can remember - which is not much : ) and everyone did their bit to make it a wicked night for me and the two other birthday people.

Sneaky Kreeps pulled out a great set at peak time and with his permission we'll have the audio on the site to download shortly. Check out www.editrecords.com for his latest news and releases.

All the rest of the audio from the night was recorded (at much much better quality than last time too : ) and I'll be sticking that and the photos up this week too. Big thanks as always to a few special people, the djs who kept it risin' till the end, and all the clubbers who came along and danced all night - you know who you are.

Don't forget, we're back on Friday 3rd August 2007 with more breaks, beats and loads of big bad bass - hope you can make it.

Cheers, Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------

17/05/2007: New Flyer and Line-up Confirmed

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The new flyer for our Saturday 2nd June night should be displayed above - this is a stop gap to advertise the night cause I'm hoping to get some Paul Evans artwork to use today or tomorrow! FYI, the quote is from Catch-22.

The line up is also confirmed for Saturday 2nd June:

Should be a good one : )

Hope you can make it, Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------

05/05/2007: Website Update

-------------------------------------------------------------------

A bit of housekeeping and some sorting out of fonts which hopefully makes the site look a bit better.

We've not uploaded the sets recorded at the 07/04/2007 WO:WO because due to technical difficulties (i.e. me being a bit dense) the recording volume was set way too high and they're horribly distorted. So sorry, but you'll just have to remember the music from the last one - and come along to our next event to form more wonderful memories to keep in your brain.

To make up for the lack of live sets, I've uploaded the free cd that we were giving away at the last event, along with the super-secret tracklisting, check it out on our music page.

Ta, Mishima

And the line-up for the next WOWO (Saturday 2nd June 2007) is most likely to include Edit Records’ very own Sneaky Kreeps! Check out their website for more details and samples of the main guy’s work – Wax On : Wax Off can tell you now that his latest track Little B is proper killer!

11/04/2007: Photos Added

-------------------------------------------------------------------

10/04/2007: WOWO Official Thank You

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello WOWO people,

Are You The Farmer did a great job once again. I laughed my arse off and it was a great start to a great night. Thanks to them also for the funny things at the afterparty ; )

Tethis & Dogmas: thank you for starting the music off so well - I was a little surprised the psytrance worked at 10:30 but it did and you got them dancing early; nice job.

Dexter Styles, nice set fella, and thanks for the free cd set, the crowd you brought to the night, the many evenings we spent organising it and arguing over the line up, working the door on the early boring quiet shift, lugging the stuff down their and back again, loaning your decks and speakers again, and all the rest of it.

Vicarious, for some great mixing and the bangiest banging dnb at the end of it. and for working the door for so long and of course for back bollocks.

WeAreGod.co.uk, for lovely progressing visuals throughout the night that really really makes the atmosphere on the dancefloor.

Hypnojoo for dancing to all the drumnbass, the afterparty and tea and gas and car loans and driving and everthing.

Bunny Number 1 for flyering and dancing and working the door and encouraging us to get this started, and just generally being great.

Atom bob for working so hard on the fantastic decor and doing all the driving to get it and the mic cable there just in time. So much appreciated.

Big-G and middle-G for causing massive afterparty laughter and taking literally millions of photos. and just for being there.

The king of Hanham for waking up the moment Hanham river was mentioned and mumbling about ants. and just for being there.

And everyone else for being there too, without which there wouldn't be much point to any of the rest of it at all.

I had such a good time and I'm pretty sure everyone else did too - roll on Saturday 2nd June I say : )

Cheers,

Mishima

-------------------------------------------------------------------
